Travelling with Jewellery: What to wear and how to keep it safe

Posted by Rachael Bromage on

I couldn't go to Bali without some of my favourite jewels to take me from days spent lounging by the pool, to exploring hidden gems, to sunset cocktails on the beach.

If you're like me, you know how tempting it is to pack all your favourite pieces. Yes, I'm an over packer too. But when it comes to my jewellery, I “try” to reign it in a little.

So… here are my top tips for travelling with jewellery.

Choose Versatile Pieces

Choose a few pieces that can be worn separately or styled together to create different looks. Not only does this save space, but it also ensures you have the perfect accessories for any occasion. Here are some of my go-tos:

  • Noctic Studs: Effortlessly chic and my everyday go-to with no fuss. They add a little subtle elegance to every outfit, perfect for days exploring or lounging by the pool.
  • Vada Diamond Studs: Ideal for polishing off that effortless travel look. The earthy hues of the champagne diamonds make them perfect for stacking with the Noctic studs or Ayla hoops, and they go with absolutely everything. A must-have for your next trip!
  • Ayla Hoops: Versatile and stunning, these hoops are just made for balmy nights. From sunset cocktails on the beach to glasses of prosecco at roof tops in the jungle, they are the perfect luxe accessory.
  • Vada ring & Elara bracelet: Whether I was on a sparkly black sand beach or at a cliffside infinity pool bar overlooking the Indian Ocean, this delicate beauty added a subtle touch of elegance to my over swimwear.

Proper Storage

Once you’ve chosen your pieces, it’s essential to pack them properly to prevent damage. If you're not wearing your jewellery, each piece should be stored in its Equals Jewellery pouch and box. This keeps your pieces from being crushed and from getting scratched. Make sure to pop them in the bottom of your carry-on bag. Trust me, you’ll thank yourself later when you open your bag and find your jewellery safe and sound.

Hotel Safety

When you’re not wearing your jewellery, always store it in the hotel safe. We all know how easy it is to get caught up in the excitement of your holiday and forget about security, but keeping your jewellery in the safe ensures it’s protected when you’re out exploring or simply not needing to accessorise. Better safe than sorry!

Before Sunscreen and Lotions

Always, always remove your jewellery before applying sunscreen or any other lotions. These products contain chemicals that might tarnish or damage your precious pieces. Plus, you’ll avoid any sticky residue that can be tricky to clean off later.

Swimming Precautions

And speaking of chemicals, always take off your jewellery before swimming. Chlorine and other chemicals in pools, and even in the ocean, can damage precious metals and pearls. It might be a bit of a hassle, but removing your jewellery before you take a dip will keep it looking its best for years to come.

With these tips, you can look fabulous and enjoy your vacation without worrying about your jewellery.
